Amar Singh to be grilled Friday

By IANS,

New Delhi: Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh will be interrogated over the 2008 cash-for-votes controversy in parliament Friday, police sources said Thursday.

Amar Singh, the then general secretary of Samajwadi Party, “is to be questioned tomorrow (Friday) for allegedly sending bribe money”, said a source.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police will also call Samajwadi Party leader Reoti Raman Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashok Argal for questioning after grilling Amar Singh.

Sudheendra Kulkarni, a former aide of BJP leader L.K. Advani, “will also be questioned”, said the source.

A senior police officer said that investigations were on and they were trying to link the whole chain of events. “If the leaders will be found to be accused, they too will be arrested,” he said.

Amar Singh’s former aide, Sanjeev Saxena, arrested by Delhi Police, has alleged that the then Samajwadi Party leader had provided Rs.1 crore for getting the support of three BJP MPs in a trust vote in 2008.

Alleged middleman Suhail Hindustani, the second accused arrested Wednesday, also levelled the same allegations against Amar Singh, saying he was the “main” man behind the scandal.

Bags filled with currency notes were shown in the Lok Sabha July 22, 2008, minutes before a trust vote was to take place.

The investigations into the case came after Supreme Court last week slammed Delhi Police for its callous approach in the case.
