New Delhi : Alleging the police crackdown against Baba Ramdev’s agitation was pre-planned, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley Tuesday blamed Home Minister P. Chidambaram for the incident in which batons and teargas shells were used to disperse the gathering.
“They wanted to break down the agitation using police power. The plan to remove Baba from the Ramlila Ground was made at least three days in advance,” Jaitley said talking to reporters here.
Alleging that the Congress had several power poles, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said while Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee started the talks, Home Minister P. Chidambaram planned the crackdown.
“The political faction of the Congress sent ministers for discussions while the arrogant faction sent police. You can understand by whom these factions were led, on one hand there was the finance minister (Pranab Mukherjee) and on other hand the home minister (P. Chidambaram),” Jaitley said.
“Where the prime minister (Manmohan Singh) was no one knows, that is why we say that the government is a headless chicken…” he said.
“I had expected the cleaning up to happen on the 3rd or 4th, I even remarked to the Uttarakhand chief minister when I was in Lucknow that he (Baba Ramdev) will be back very soon,” Jaitley added.
