New Delhi : Following the rejection of her bail plea by the Delhi High Court Wednesday, DMK’s Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi is likely to move the Supreme Court in a day or two to seek bail, sources from her legal team said.
Besides Kanimozhi, the high court also dismissed the bail plea of Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar.
Both, charged as co-accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case, are currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
Kanimozhi will challenge the Delhi High Court verdict that rejected her bail plea on the ground of the possibility of her tempering with witnesses and evidence.
Sources close to her legal team said that they were already working on moving the apex court and were waiting to get a copy of the high court verdict.
They said if everything falls into place, they would submit the plea before the vacation bench of the apex court Thursday or Friday.
Kanimozhi’s lawyers are expecting the plea to be heard June 13.
While dismissing their plea for bail, the high court said that given their political and money influence, Kanimozhi and Kumar were capable of tampering with evidence and influencing the witnesses.
The high court also took into account the seriousness of the offences that Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK chief and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi, and Sharad Kumar have been charged with.
Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar are accused as co-conspirators and beneficiaries of the 2G spectrum scam for allegedly accepting Rs.214 crore bribe.
Former communications minister Andimuthu Raja is already in jail in connection with 2G scam.
