My party will not call shutdowns: Mamata

By IANS,

Kolkata: Emphasising that people do not like shutdowns, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Saturday said her Trinamool Congress will not resort to such a form of agitation.

“We have not called for a shutdown for the last two to three years. My party will not call for any shutdown. We know very well that people do not like shutdowns. People will protest if shutdowns are called very often,” Banerjee said in an interactive session with industrialists here.

“We in the past called for shutdown. But later we realised that it was not good,” she said.

“Movements will be there for rights. But if anybody has to do shutdown, then he has to keep the gates of factories open,” she added.
