Islamabad : A Pakistani law maker here Wednesday accused world’s major powers of double standards against Islamic countries and said that they should adopt policies based on respect and dialogue.
Talking to IRNA member of National Assembly Nosheen Saeed of Pakistan Muslim League-Q agreed with the statement of Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi who had stressed the importance of observing the rights and commitments of countries “in a balanced way” in accordance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The politician was of the view that double standards of West in dealing international affairs have put the credibility of international bodies at stake. “There is hypocrisy in the policies of Western countries”, she believed.
Nosheen Saeed added that now a days there is wave of vengeance in the Middle East against Western bias.
The parliamentarian expressing her views about Iran’s nuclear program said that Islamic Republic is signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has an inalienable right of acquiring peaceful nuclear technology.
The NPT is a treaty to limit the spread and proliferation of nuclear weapons. The treaty came into force on March 5, 1970, with 189 signatories currently.
Iran has repeatedly announced that as a signatory to the NPT, it should exercise its inalienable rights within the treaty’s framework.
“It is democratic right of Iran to develop nuclear energy to meet its energy demands and West has to respect Iran’s right”, Nosheen Saeed opined.
The legislator went on to say that policies of West against Iran have always remained unfair.
The politician stated that Iran has been saying that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes so there is no reason left for U.S. and West to suspect Iran’s nuclear activities.
She warned that the Western policy of pick and chose may not survive. “Why the West is only concerned about Iran’s nuclear program whereas other countries are allowed to develop their nuclear programs without any pressure” asked Nosheen Saeed.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has once again emphasized that the country’s nuclear activities pursue peaceful purposes and are carried out under the surveillance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In its latest report, issued by IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano, the UN nuclear agency once again confirmed that Iran’s nuclear program has never been diverted to nuclear weapons production.
