Govt. scheme for leadership development of Muslim women

New Delhi: The Central government on Thursday said that a scheme for the leadership development of minority women has been launched and is being implemented from 2010-11. Without naming the scheme, Vincent H. Pala, Minister of State for Minority Affairs, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, said that the objective of the scheme is to empower and instill confidence in women, including Muslim women, by providing knowledge, tools and techniques for interacting with functionaries of government, banks, etc. at all levels.

The Minister said that the scheme has been approved for implementation during the 11th Five Year Plan with a revised allocation of Rs. 5 crore for 2010-11 and Rs. 15 crore for 2011-12 to cover 18,950 and 55,800 women trainees respectively. This scheme is applicable to all the states in the country.
