Leaked US diplomatic cables suggested a pay-off during the 2008 confidence vote following which opposition parties had stalled proceedings in the upper house, demanding a discussion on the issue.

Even as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made a statement in both houses Friday dismissing the allegations, a dissatisfied opposition Tuesday submitted notices for breach of privilege alleging he had misled the house on the findings of the parliamentary committee that probed the scandal.

However, with the prime minister’s statement slated for discussion Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha functioned normally after three disturbed days, with the house taking up zero hour discussions at 11 a.m.

The government Tuesday agreed to the opposition’s demand for a discussion on the prime minister’s statement.
