MCD asked to explain boy’s death

New Delhi : The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been asked to submit an ‘action-taken’ report on the death of a seven-year-old boy who had fallen into an open drain while playing outside his house, an official said Thursday.

According to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), it has sought the report from the civic agency within four weeks time.

The incident took place Feb 25 in New Ranjit Nagar area. The victim was a class two student of a private school in the locality.

“The commission considered the matter on March 21 on a complaint filed by lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy. The complainant had sought an independent investigation by the NHRC into the incident, action against errant officials and compensation to the family members of the victim,” the NHRC official said.
