New Delhi : A second-year student of Delhi University’s Satyawati College has been arrested for stealing jewellery from her landlord’s house while he and his family were away, police said Friday.
Savitri, 22, had moved to the first floor of Vijay Grover’s house in Avantika area of Rohini in north Delhi 15 days ago, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.
Grover told police that he along with his family had gone out on Wednesday afternoon to meet his sister in Khayala. While leaving, he had told Savitri and asked her to take care of his house.
“His daughter discovered Thursday that gold jewellery were missing,” Sharma said.
“We interrogated Savitri who confessed to crime. She used to visit the house of her landlord and knew about the jewellery being there. She stole gold and silver jewellery when Grover told her to look after the house and left,” said Sharma.
Savitri was arrested and all the stolen jewellery recovered from her possession.
Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts course, Savitri was married in 2010 but developed strained relations with her husband Deepak who had filed for divorce.
“After that, she started residing with her friend Paras in Vijay Vihar before shifting to Avantika,” said Sharma.
