Hajj: 42,156 applications in Kerala

By TCN News,

Malappuram: The Kerala Hajj Committee received 42, 156 applications for Hajj this year, while the state’s quota is only about 7000. So, more than 80% of the applicants will not be able to perform the Hajj this year. Around 4000 applications are more this year than last year.

However, those who have applied and were not selected for Hajj in the past three years will be selected without drawing any lots this year. Applicants above 70 years of age and an aid will also be included in the ‘reserved’ category. They will be selected without drawing lots. There are around 5000 applications in this category.

The lots will be drawn on May 17, to the seats vacant after the selection of the reserved category. So, only around 2000 applicants will be selected by drawing lots.

Applications were received at the State Hajj Committee Office from March 16 to April 30. Details of all the applicants should be handed over to the Central Hajj Committee by May 5. However, the state is not sure if it can meet the deadline even though its employees have reportedly worked without any holidays last month. Kerala has asked the centre to postpone the date to May 10.

The applicants should contact the Hajj Committee Office if they have not received the cover numbers by May 7, with a copy of the application.
