New Delhi: Under the Merit-Cum-Means scholarship scheme of the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, more than 1.2 lakh scholarships have been awarded in last four years beginning from 2007-08. This scheme is meant for the students belonging to the Minority communities studying in technical and professional courses.
This scheme was launched in 2007-08 and cumulatively 1,20,491 scholarships have been awarded till 31st March 2011.
During 2010-11, a total of 41,056 scholarships have been awarded. Of these 19,518 scholarships were fresh and 21,538 were renewals involving an amount of Rs.108.75 crore. Of these, 34.29% went to female students. The target fixed for fresh scholarships during 2010-11 was 20,000, says a statement from the ministry.
