New Delhi : Delhi Daredevils coach Greg Shipperd Friday said his team is eager to win their last Indian Premier League match against Pune Warriors here Saturday and avoid the wooden spoon.
New entrants Pune Warriors and new-look Daredevils have struggled throughout the tournament. They are languishing at ninth and 10th place in the points table and are desperate to end the tournament with a win.
Shipperd admitted that Daredevils could not achieve their target in this edition but would like to sign off with a win.
“We would like to finish on a winning note and we are keen to get off from the bottom of the points table,” said Shipperd.
“We have a fairly young side and they will find their feet in the coming future. Varun Aaron, Umukut Chand and Umesh Yadav have been our positive finds this season. (Virender) Sehwag is an excellent player but it would be unfair to rely only on our middle-order. You need team effort to win matches.”
Daredevils did well in patches but were inconsistent to the extent that they were not able to win two matches in a row. Shippered said the team will bounce back in the next season.
“We have not achieved our target this season but we have already started our preparations for the next season. We are into a review process. We will bounce back strongly next year and things will change for us next season,” he said.
