Five killed as rival gangs clash

By IANS,

Ranchi : Five people were killed in clashes between two criminal gangs in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, police said Tuesday.

“Five people were killed in clashes between two rival criminal gangs. One of those killed has been identified as Ravi Oraon. We are investigating the case to ascertain the reason for the clashes and trying to ascertain the identity of the others killed,” Jatin Narwal, superintendent of police of Gumla district, told IANS over telephone.

The clashes took place near Manjira dam of Gumla district, around 140 km from Ranchi. Police recovered the bodies Tuesday.

According to Narwal, the killings seem to be the result of a gunbattle between two rival gangs led by Bhushan Lakra and Ramdev. The two lead splinter groups of two Maoist outfits – People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) and Jharkhand Jan Sangharsh Mukti Morcha (JJSMM), police say.

Police recovered two countrymade rifles from those killed.
