Dengue fever outbreak grips Pakistani eastern city, hundreds infected

By KUNA,

Islamabad : The outbreak of dengue fever has gripped Pakistan’s eastern Lahore city as hundreds of infected patients have been admitted in several city hospitals.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani’s son and a lawmaker Sheikh Rohail Asghar have also contracted dengue fever.

According to Provincial Health Ministry, the total number of dengue fever cases has jumped to 3,335 in the Lahore city, capital of eastern Punjab province. About, 1,360 patients have recovered and were discharged from different hospitals.

The number had suddenly increased that almost all public hospitals are overcrowded, causing shortage of platelet kits, which are essential for dengue patients. A similar outbreak hit the city last year in October and September, during the monsoon season.
