New Delhi: Tennis stars Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, Somdev Devvarman, Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza are among the large number of sportspersons who received grants totalling Rs.13.91 crores in the last four years for training and competitions ahead of international events, parliament was informed Tuesday.
Top shooters, badminton players and gymnasts also received grants from the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF), Sports Minister Ajay Maken said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The fund is managed by a council headed by the sports minster and has eminent sportspersons, sports ministry officials and people from corporate sector as its members.
The working of the fund is managed by an executive committee of 10 members headed by the sports secretary.
