Two students injured in bomb blast in Kannur

Kannur: Two students of a Madrasa in Panoor in Kannur district were injured in a bomb blast on Saturday. The injured boys are Sinan (11) and Ajnas (13). The incident took place at Vaidyarpeedika near Panoor.

The students reportedly stamped on an ice-cream ball on the side of the road while walking, when the bomb in the ball exploded, according to reports. However, there is also another report which says that somebody in an autorikshaw hurled the bomb at the boys. The police have not reportedly confirmed this second version.

The boys, students of Darul Huda Madrasa in Vaidyarpeedika, were out to bring food on Saturday morning when they unexpectedly stamped on the ice-cream ball. They were immediately taken to the Community Health Centre nearby and from there to the Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital in Thalassery. Sinan was injured in the leg and Ajnas on chest, however the injuries are not serious, according to reports. Sinan is a student of Thiruval UP School and Ajnas studies in Peringathar NAM HSS.

The police have begun investigation into the matter. Thalassery DySP AP Shoukathali and CI PK Santhosh visited the place. The police will investigate as to how the explosives reached the place.

There are also reports that another explosion had taken place in Vaidyarpeedika on Friday night. There have been problems between the RSS, the Muslim League and the PFI in the area.
