Police swooped down on the trio after monitoring their movements in the port of Mombasa, The Sun reported.

Experts were examining their laptops and cameras.

“They were acting suspiciously. They said they are tourists but some of their actions gave us cause to believe they are not,” police chief Ambrose Munyasia was quoted as saying.

Interpol was checking on the background of the British men.

Kenyan officials, however, have refused to say if they are suspected of belonging to a specific terror group.

The British Foreign Office said it was providing consular assistance to the detained people.

In 2002, at least 15 people died in Mombasa in a bomb attack on a hotel. Terrorists later fired missiles at an Israeli jet as it took off from the city’s airport.
