Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) team has won the North Zone Intervarsity Badminton (Women) Championship 2012-2013 by defeating Delhi University in finals played on Sunday at the Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak.
This is for the first time that the women’s badminton team of the University has won the North Zone Intervarsity. Sara Naqvi of AMU contingent also won the award of best player of the tournament. Other members of the AMU team included Kanwaljeet Kaur and Saloni Yadav.

In singles, Sarah Naqvi won the Championship match by defeating Nidhi Tiwari of Delhi University 21-09, 21-16 while in doubles the team of Sarah Naqvi and Kanwaljeet defeated Nidhi Tiwari and Ruchi Chabra of Delhi University by 17-21, 21-13 and 21-14.
Sara Naqvi has also been selected to represent Indian Junior Badminton Team in Korea Open Badminton Championship to be played at Seoul, Korea from December 4-9, 2012.
Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Secretary, University Games Committee and Prof. Tabassum Shahab, President Gymkhana Club has congratulated the Coach Mr. Khusrow Maroof, Captain, Mr. Chandan Kumar and other team members on making a history for AMU badminton club and bringing laurels to the University.
