“The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation must concentrate on construction of low-cost houses for economically weaker sections with an aim to make Delhi a slum free city at the earliest,” Dikshit said while announcing the allotment of 2,229 houses to industrial workers in the city.

Under the scheme, the DSIIDC under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme had identified 2,229 industrial workers who were found eligible after scrutiny of their applications submitted in 2007.

“The government will continue its effort in providing affordable houses in well developed colonies to the industrial workers, EWS (economically weaker sections) category and slum dwellers despite its limitations on availability of land,” Dikshit told reporters.
