“A total of 32 farmers have committed suicide in the state so far as they were unable to sell their corps. The situation is getting worse everyday. The numbers of farmers committing suicide in the state is increasing,” said Shymal Chakraborty, central committee member, CPI-M.

Chakraborty was addressing the media on the sidelines of the four-day West Bengal state conference that started Wednesday. The party is all set to discuss its future agenda at the meet, being held for the first time in three decades with the party in opposition.

Reacting to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee denying farmer suicides, Chakraborty said, “We challenge the government to prove what they are saying. She is not stating the fact.”
