Srinagar: Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu & Kashmir today issued a clarification regarding their controversial diktat that issued a dress code for the tourists.
In a statement released today, Jamaat stated that their statement was misconstrued by the New Delhi media.
Jamaat-e-Islami said that their earlier statement was not an edict on dress code but rather an appeal to the tourists to dress keeping in mind the sentiments of the local population.
“No Islamic dress was suggested to them which is meant only for those who admit Islam as the only true religion of Allah.”
Commenting on the report by Sameer Showkeen Lone that Jamaat leadership was not happy with this statement, Advocate Zahid Ali, Spokesperson of Jama’at-e-Islami, J&K said that he is within his right to comment on the day to day affairs as described in the Jamaat constitution. “Jamaat leadership disagrees with the way the words of the statement were misconstrued, but not with the actual statement at all and no Jama’at dignitary described it as needless,” added Ali.
