New Delhi : Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar has been urged by a former chief secretary of Delhi to prevent the land mafia from grabbing a plot of land in the south Delhi area of Panchshila Park.
Omesh Saigal, president of the Panchshila Cooperative House Building Society, has urged Neeraj Kumar to intervene.
The contentious land measures 2.4 acres and was allotted to the society by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in 1975 for a school, which was built in a portion of the premises in 1982.
“A couple of civil suits were filed against us by vested interests but these were dismissed,” said Saigal, a retired IAS official.
According to him, some miscreants tried to forcibly occupy the land in 2008. Following an enquiry, police ruled in 2009 that the land indeed belonged to the housing society.
Saigal alleged that when work was going on in the area recently, “some miscreants threatened our (gardeners) and stopped our work”. A police complaint was filed this month.
Subsequently, a policeman appeared on the site to say work could begin on the land only if the Malviya Nagar police station chief gave the green signal.
“I request your intervention so that the land mafia is not able to usurp our land which, in their hands, is worth hundreds of crores (of rupees),” Saigal said.
