Mahmood Madani leading Muslim MPs to Assam

New Delhi: A delegation of Muslim leaders led by Maulana Mahmood Madani, general secretary, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is visiting riot-torn areas of Assam on Sunday. Maulana Madani arrived in Guwahati today and was scheduled to leave this evening for Bilasipura in Dhubri district neighboring Kokrajhar – the epicenter of violence.

The delegation comprises several Members of Parliament and local legislators including Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, MP and President, Jamiat Ulama Assam state, Asaduddin Owaisi, MP, Hyderabad, Sabir Ali, MP, Bihar, Mualana Siddiquillah Chaudhri, secretary JUH West Bengal state, Hafiz Bashir Ahmad, MLA, Maulana Yahya acting president JUH Assam State and others, informed Abdul Hameed Noumani, Secretary for press and publicity, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

The delegation is scheduled to meet victims of the violence taking shelter in camps in Bilasipara and Gossaigaon. The delegation will take stock of the situation and will decide future course of action accordingly.
Earlier in a letter to PM Dr. Manmohan Sing and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi Jamiat Leader Maulana Madani while expressing deep anguish over current communal flares-up that created human crisis in Assam, had demanded to instruct the state Chief Minister to take immediate and strong action against instigators of violence, provide security to and instill confidence into those rendered destitute and ensure that they return back to their home.

Meanwhile, PM Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi today visited Assam and met victims at some relief camps.
