Akhilesh seeks quick Nabard decisions to help development

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav met National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard)chairman Prakash Bakshi here in the capital city Wednesday, and pressed for prompt decisions to hasten the state’s development programmes.

The two discussed priorities of the state government among other things. Farmers formed the core priority of the state government, Akhilesh told Bakshi and asked him to take prompt decisions on various issues regarding the development of the state.

During the meeting, the issue of the Reserve Bank of India ban on disbursal and deposits in the 25 unlicensed district cooperative banks in the state was also discussed. The chief minister asked Bakshi to help end the ban and allow these banks to work as in the past.

Akhilesh asked the Nabard chairman to immediately release the central share of Rs.922.28 crore under the recommendations of the Vaidyanathan Committee to revive district cooperative banks.

While discussing issues pertaining to the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Rural Development Bank, Akhilesh reminded Bakshi that finance re-appropriation proposals worth Rs.416 crore were pending with Nabard, whose credit sanction letter was not issued.
