Lucknow : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday accused the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh of preventing its candidate for the Kannauj Lok Sabha bypoll from reaching the collectorate to file his nomination papers.
State party president Laxmikant Bajpayi said party candidate Jagdev Singh Yadav was physically obstructed by SP workers from reaching the collectorate before the Wednesday deadline for the June 24 bypoll.
The party also filed a complaint before election commission officials in Lucknow.
The BJP Tuesday declared that it would not field a candidate for the bypoll.
Bajpayi Wednesday clarified that the party had changed its stand and a candidate’s name was announced against SP’s Dimple Yadav, who is the wife of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
