Bangladesh receives over $8 bn in remittances

Dhaka : Bangladesh’s remittances surged to over $8 billion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year (July 2011-June 2012), posting 12.15 percent growth year-on-year, a central bank official said Sunday.

Quoting provisional data, the Bangladesh Bank (BB) official requesting anonymity, said: “The flow of inward remittances in July-February period of the current fiscal year stood at $8,414.99 million.”

He said millions of non-resident Bangladeshis, working in over 100 countries, sent home $1,130.90 million in February, nearly 14.58 percent higher than that in the same month a year ago, Xinhua reported.
