New Delhi : A medical student, who was disturbed over his academic performance, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his hostel room in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in south Delhi, police said Sunday.
Anil Kumar Meena, 22, from Baran district in Rajasthan, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room Sunday. No suicide note was recovered.
“Meena had been pursuing MBBS at AIIMS and had failed in the first year exams as well as internal examinations,” said a police official.
“He also apparently had psychiatric problems,” said the official.
According to the official, Meena, a farmer’s son, had low attendance and was not promoted to the next class.
“He also had problems in following lectures in English,” said the official.
“Since Saturday morning he had kept himself locked inside his room,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.
A security guard managed to look inside his room through the ventilator to find his body hanging.
