Ajay Bhatt to head BJP legislature party in Uttarakhand

New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday appointed Ajay Bhatt, the legislator from Ranikhet, as leader of its legislature party in Uttarakhand.

A statement by the BJP said party president Nitin Gadkari has appointed Bhatt as the legislature party leader.

The statement said that party legislators in Uttarakhand had sent a resolution calling upon Gadkari to appoint the leader of legislature party.

The BJP had finished narrowly behind the Congress in the assembly elections winning 31 seats in the 70-member assembly. The Congress won 32 seats and has formed the government with the support of Independents and the Bahujan Samaj Party.

B.C. Khanduri, who had led the BJP into the polls as chief minister, had lost in the assembly polls.
