Jalandhar : At least four smugglers have been arrested by the Jalandhar rural police, who Friday claimed to have busted a inter-state gang of gun-runners.
Jalandhar Police (Rural) chief Y.S. Hayer told media persons here Friday that 10 locally-made pistols and 22 live cartridges have been recovered from the gang. The gang members were arrested from a ‘dhaba’ (road side eatery) near Kartarpur town, 25 km from here, Thursday night.
Hayer said that the kingpin, Jangli Shah from Bihar would get illegally manufactured weapons from Bihar and sell these to criminal gangs operating in Punjab. Shah is among those arrested.
Hayer said during questioning Shah told police he had supplied over 80 weapons to various gangs in Punjab in recent months. Shah procured the locally-made illicit weapons at cheaper rates from Bihar and sell these at much higher price in Punjab.
Punjab Police will coordinate with their Bihar counterparts to nab the suppliers of these weapons in that state.
