Forhad Khan and his wife Rahima Khanam were killed in January 2011 in their flat at Naya Paltan in Dhaka, the Daily Star reported.

Nazimuzzaman Yon, nephew of Khan, and one of Yon’s friends, Raju Ahmed, were convicted and sentenced by a speedy trial tribunal.

In another case where a journalist couple were killed, Sagar Sarowar and his wife Meherun Runi were found murdered in their West Rajabazar flat in Dhaka in February.

Sarowar was a news editor in private TV channel Maasranga, while Runi was a senior reporter for ATN Bangla.

Bangladesh Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir has named seven suspects in the murder.

However, the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists said four of the arrested were professional killers, and hoped the “real killers” would be identified soon and the motive for the murder would be revealed.
