Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Monday said there is no need to panic about dengue in the state as the government is taking necessary action to prevent an outbreak.
In a statement issued here, she said that as of now only 59 people are being treated for dengue in the state.
Earlier, about 400 people who were affected with it have fully recovered and have been sent home after treatment.
She said the media has attributed the death of a person to dengue but it was due to multiple organ failure.
According to her, it is usual that about one percent of the total population would suffer from fever daily and the percentage may go up to two percent during monsoon season.
Jayalalithaa said the government hospitals have sufficient stocks of medicines and the state health officials are monitoring the situation closely.
