Two Chinese hospital workers jailed for graft

Beijing: Two hospital employees in China’s Shanghai city have been awarded prison terms and fined for taking bribes from pharmaceutical companies for promoting their medicines.

In a verdict, Changning District Court sentenced Li Xiang, an accountant to two years and six months with 30 months of probation and fined 10,000 yuan ($1,612), Shanghai Daily reported.

Serving as a mediator between doctors and pharmaceutical firms, Li accepted 95,000 yuan in bribes from both pharmaceutical companies and doctors.

Another suspect, Li Fan, whose job involved the management and maintenance of medicine purchase data, was sentenced to 18 months and fined 10,000 yuan for taking 70,000 yuan in bribes.
