Bangalore: Karnataka Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj Saturday heralded the 64th Republic Day celebrations across the state by unfurling the tricolour and inspecting the guard of honour at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Shaw parade grounds in this city centre.
On a bright sunny day with cool breeze wafting across the ground, rose petals were showered from a flying chopper of the Indian Army around the podium area where the governor, his wife, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, ministers and other dignitaries were seated.
Soon after hoisting the national flag, Bhardwaj boarded an open jeep to receive salute from the armed forces and other contingents including battalions of police, National Cadets Corps, Bharat Scouts and Guides and hundreds of school children.
About 5,000 people gathered at the venue and cheered the security forces and others who took part in the march past, with military and police bands in attendance.
