Bhopal : A number of suspects have been rounded up in connection with the gang-rape of a Swiss tourist in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district, police said Sunday.
The woman was gang-raped Friday night by eight men near a forest in Datia where she was camping for the night along with her husband. The incident took place at Jhadia village, eight km from Datia town, at 9 p.m. A medical examination confirmed rape.
According to reports, over 20 people have been detained and are being questioned.
The 39-year-old woman and her husband, both adventure tourists, have since left for New Delhi.
The couple were on their way back from the temple town of Orchha, and were planning to go to see the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Her husband told the police that four men committed the rape while the others held them. The accused – around eight in number – also assaulted her husband and made away with their belongings including cash, laptop, camera, torches and mobile phones.
