London based NGO functionary commits suicide in Lucknow

Lucknow: A London based NGO functionary was found dead at his residence in city on Monday. Police reports termed it as a case of suicide as the deceased was under stress due to heavy loan.

The deceased has been identified as Shivanandan Duncan George Khan, aged around 65 years, a resident of New Berry Road, Lucknow. His face was covered with polythene which was tightened by a rubber band at his neck. Police stated that Shivanandan had also vomitted in the polythene.

Inspector Hazratganj, Ashok Kumar Verma stated that as per primary reports it appears to be a case of suicide by consuming some poisonous substance.

Shivanandan had also sent a SMS to his friend before the death in which he had mentioned his status due to heavy loan. Further action will be taken on the basis of primary reports.

Shivanandan was running a NGO Naaz Foundation for spreading awareness about HIV AIDS. He had his office at 9 Gulzar Colony, New Berry Road.

He used to live on the first floor of the same building with one Ravindra Yadav who is reported to be his adopted son. Ravindra is a graduation student.

Originally he belonged to London and used to go there often. His family including parents and siblings live in London while Shivanandan is unmarried.
Shivanandan had started social work for awareness about HIV and AIDS. In 2000 he founded Naaz Foundation and used to work from Lucknow. It is reported that even Queen Elizabeth had felicitated him for his social work. Lately he was to receive several crores as donation but due to the delay he took loans which resulted in stress and finally committing suicide.

His friend Arif who has now formed his own organization Maan Foundation stated that he had received SMS from Shivanandan and called back several times but there was no response. Ravindra on the other hand stated that he tried calling him several times but there was no response. Police forced entry by breaking the latches to find Shivanandan dead.
