Inclusive economic development solutions are possible, says visiting Scottish Minister Hamaz Yusaf

    New Delhi: Inclusive economic development Solutions ushered by tribal, dalit and minority communities and women groups are possible, said visiting Scottish Minister for external affairs and international development during a partners’ meeting organized by Christian Aid, on behalf of Scottish South Asia Development Programme on October 12 at the India International Center (IIC).

    Besides national and international development organizations like, Caritas India, Christian Aid, Opportunity International, Mercy Corps, VSO and Yes Bank, along with their respective grass root level groups presented the outcome and impact of their interventions in addressing the issues of poverty and inequality.

    These grass root level organizations emphasized that if supported, these initiatives can serve as model of economic development, helping larger integrations of several communities on the margins.

    For example, ANHAD’s initiative ‘Dhaani’ – a brand for Jute bags and other utility products like door mats, etc – brings together women groups of Bihar, Kashmir, Haryana, Gujarat, Delhi and the rest of India for a sustainable development.

    Similarly, Desert Greens is a natural forest honey brand promoted by Samarthak Producer Company Ltd in Udaipur, or JaibaJeevan is a producer company run by tribal and dalit women from Kandhmal district in Odisha.

    The Scottish Minister is on India tour from October 11 to 16 and had several meetings in Delhi and Mumbai for better ties between the two countries.
