AMU tennis team retains North Zone intervarsity championship

    Aligarh: The last year all India and North Zone Inter University Tennis Champion, Aligarh Muslim University succeeded in retaining the title of North Zone Winner by defeating the Delhi University 4-1 in the North Zone Inter University Championship, which concluded at DCR University, Morthal, Sonepat, Haryana on Saturday.

    In the singles, Shadab of AMU beat Dhruv 6-3 and 6-4. In doubles, Shadab and Chandril defeated Kunal and Deepak of DU 63-36 while in reverse single, Chandril beat Dhruv 6-1, 6-0 and Shadab defeated Kunal 6-3, 6-4.

    Earlier, Aligarh Muslim University reached in the quarter final and semi-final by defeating Punjabi University, Patiala 3-1 and GNDU Amritsar by 3-0 respectively. The team, comprises Chandril Sood (Captain), Mohd. Nasir, Mohd Shadab Khan, Fawad Naqvi and Danish Musheer.

    Last year, the Aligarh Muslim University teams won both the All India and North Zone titles after defeating Madras University, Chennai and Delhi University respectively.

    Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Secretary, University Games Committee and President, Tennis Club has congratulated the team members and hoped that the University team will continue its victories and retain the title in forthcoming years as well.
