New Delhi : The Congress Thursday moved a privilege motion in the Lok Sabha against Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu for “misleading” the house over the Christmas holiday in Navodaya schools issue.
The notice for privilege was moved by Congress MP K.C. Venugopal.
Venugopal has said in the notice that the HRD ministry had issued three circulars to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Navodaya schools and universities, contrary to government’s claim that no circular to celebrate ‘Good Governance Day’ on Dec 25 was issued.
Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia had Wednesday said that if the ministers were found to be “misleading”, his party would use “all options” including a privilege motion.
He had said that the government has several times said in parliament and outside that no circular was issued.
The party had Wednesday asked the government to come clean and give an explanation over the issue.
In separate circulars, the HRD ministry has asked Navodaya Vidyalayas, CBSE schools and the the All India Council of Technical Education to hold events to mark Dec 25 as ‘Good Governance Day’.However, the ministry clarified that all participation was voluntary and institutions need not be open on Christmas Day.
The issue of schools being asked to remain open on Christmas to mark “good governance day” was raised in the Lok Sabha Wednesday and Tuesday.
