Assam CM asks security forces to deal firmly with BTAD situation

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi instructed the Police to deal firmly with the situation in the wake of gunning down of innocent persons by suspected NDFB(S) militants at Narsingbari and Balapara Tulsibil under BTAD last night. Altogether 11 persons were killed that include four at Narsingbari under Baksa district and seven at Balapara Tulsibil in Gossaigaon.

At a law and order meeting with top civil and police officials at his office chamber, CM Gogoi asked the police to leave no stone unturned to nab the militants behind the gruesome incidents and to bring the situation under control. The Chief Minister sought the assistance of the Army and para-military forces to deal with the situation. Meanwhile the Army has staged flag marches to instil confidence among the people in the violence affected places and to bring the situation under control.

The CM highly condemned the incidents and termed them as cowardly acts by suspected militants of NDFB(S). “The Government will do everything possible to frustrate the nefarious designs of the insurgents out to create terror and to apprehend them at the earliest,” he added.

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde called up the Chief Minister in the morning and the latter briefed him about the incidents. The Home Minister assured all help and support to the State Government in bringing the situation to normality. Shinde assured Gogoi that additional companies would be rushed in to reinforce security in the violence-hit places in particular and BTAD in general. Meanwhile, the State Home Department has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to deploy additional 10 companies in the affected areas of BTAD.

Senior police officials have been asked to take sector-wise responsibility for maintenance of law and order in BTAD areas. The law and order meeting convened by the Chief Minister was attended, among others, by Chief Secretary, Jitesh Khosla, DGP, Khagen Sarma, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Jishnu Barua, Commissioner & Secretary, Home, GD Tripathi and ADGP (SB), Pallab Bhattacharyya.
