Bangalore : The NDA government would not indulge in any witch-hunt against political opponents such as Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, but would allow the law to take its own course, union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said Friday.
“We don’t want to launch a witch-hunt against anyone, including political opponents. At the same time, the law would take its own course,” Naidu told reporters in answer to queries whether the Narendra Modi government would take action against Vadra for his alleged involvement in controversial land deals in Haryana and Rajasthan during the tenure of the UPA government.
During campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections across the country, the Bharatiya Janata Party had targetted Vadra over his land deals.
Declining to comment further on the issue, Naidu said the priority of the new government was governance, performance and delivery, and it would not look into other things that were controversial during the UPA government.
“I don’t want to make any political comment now. We are focused on governance and speedy implementation of our programmes. Other things can be looked into later. The Congress-led UPA government always acted under pressure. There is no pressure on us. Let the facts (related to the land deals) come out first. Let us see,” he said.
Accusing the Congress of having misused power and authority during its 10-year rule, Naidu said the people had rejected them and gave a clear mandate to the BJP in the recent elections.
“The Congress ruled and ruined the country. I hope its leaders will realise and behave in a responsible manner,” Naidu said at a felicitation function the ruling BJP’s state unit held at Palace grounds for the four central ministers from Karnataka.
Though Naidu belongs to the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, he represents Karnataka in the Rajya Sabha.
Naidu also assured the Congress government in Karnataka of full cooperation and assistance from the central government in the development of the state.
“As far as development is concerned, we do not discriminate on the basis of party ideologies of state governments. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told us that we must take states along and work together in the true federal spirit of the Constitution,” he said.
The three others who were also felicitated on the occasion were Railway Minister D.V Sadanada Gowda, Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar and Minister of State for Civil Aviation G.M. Siddeshwara.
