Imphal: Various government agencies and private bodies in Manipur observed the National Education Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter, eminent educationist and India’s first Union Minister of Education Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
The State Directorate of Education observed the day by remembering Maulana Azad and his contributions in the field of education. Essay and painting competitions were also held for school children on the themes “Importance of Education in National Building” and “Clean environment in schools” respectively on November 10.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Imphal also observed the day by paying floral tribute to the photo of Maulana Azad and remembering the contributions made by him as the first education minister of the country.
A rally – it began from DIET, Imphal, at D M College Campus and went up to IGNOU Regional Centre Campus at North AOC – was also taken out by the staff of the University to make people aware of the importance of education and the educational facilities which IGNOU provides.
The day was also observed in the colleges and schools. Waikhom Mani Girls’ College in Thoubal district also observed the day by organizing a rally. Teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the college took part in the rally.
South East Manipur Higher Secondary Schools, Kaapam in Chandel district also observed the day by remembering the works of Maulana Azad in the field of education. A seminar on the theme, “The present Trend of Education in India” was also organized.
