Shillong: Suspected Garo insurgents Wednesday night lobbed a crude bomb at a police outpost in Meghalaya, but there were no casualties, police said.
The militants tossed the bomb at 8.45 p.m. at the Rongram police outpost in West Garo Hills district, district police chief Mukesh Kumar Singh told IANS.
“There were no casualties and no damage to the police outpost,” he said.
The policemen at the outpost also fired back soon after the blast.
“We don’t know if any of the attackers were injured but we have launched a manhunt to nab them,” the police official said.
This was the second attack by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) since Tuesday.
Two policemen were killed and three were injured in remote Rewak area in South Garo Hills district Tuesday when members of the outfit exploded an improvised explosive device (IED).
Meanwhile, police arrested two GNLA militants – Malseng T. Sangma and Tengpan N. Sangma – from Rongrong area in North Garo Hills district.
One 7.65 mm pistol with magazine and three rounds of ammunition, two air guns, a video camera, a mobile phone and a motorcycle besides incriminating documents were seized from them.
