Panaji : A day after he called for an end to “dynasty politics”, the Goa Congress unit has removed the party’s official spokesperson Durgadas Kamat from his post.
In an order issued Monday, office general secretary Arthur Sequiera named a fresh panel of two spokespersons with clear instructions that only the newly appointed duo “shall go to the press with prior consent and after discussing the issues with the undersigned”.
Following the electoral results in Haryana and Maharashtra, where the Congress faced a humiliating defeat, Kamat in his Facebook post had called for introspection and an end to dynasty rule both in Delhi and in Goa.
He said: “End should be put to dynasty politics whether at the centre or in the states. Young people who perform and do not have political godfathers should be brought forward in the best interest of Indian politics.”
The comment appeared to be a critique of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son and vice president Rahul Gandhi as well as mini political dynasties in Goa who function as permanent satraps in the state Congress unit.
“(If they) get in young blood without family raj, the result would have been different. Hope in Goa too, our people understand the same and not tell me to keep my mouth shut against the government,” Kamat said.
Speaking to IANS, Kamat confirmed his sacking but also stuck to his stand.
He said: “I am a loyal soldier of the Congress and my actions are in sync with the best interests of my party. I will continue to work for the Congress in any position.”
