Dhaka : Bangladesh’s 20-party opposition alliance announced protest plans against the government’s move to push through an amendment to restore parliament’s authority to impeach Supreme Court judges.
Nazrul Islam Khan, standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the largest opposition party in parliament, told media Tuesday after a meeting of the alliance that they would hold rallies and processions Wednesday in all the districts of the country, bdnews24.com reported.
Islam Khan also added that a protest rally will be held in the capital Thursday.
The venue of the Dhaka rally will be announced later, he said.
“The government’s move to empower lawmakers elected through a dubious election to impeach judges is aimed at clinging to power,” the BNP leader said.
“The people will take a bold stance against the government’s evil-doing,” he added.
