Thiruvananthapuram : Veteran Congress leader A.Nafeesath Beevi, who also served as the deputy speaker of the Kerala Assembly, passed away at a private hospital here Monday evening, the party said. She was 91.
Nafeesath Beevi is survived by three daughters and a son. Her husband had predeceased her in 1986.
Elected to the second Kerala Assembly in 1960, she was elected the deputy speaker. That was the only time she won an election, losing further attempts to enter the assembly or the Lok Sabha.
An advocate by profession, she was in full time politics for well over six decades and was a member of the All India Congress Committee.
Her funeral will take place here on Tuesday afternoon, party leaders said.
