Kolkata: Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Wednesday slammed Narendra Modi’s comments in China and South Korea about “people being ashamed of being born in India”, saying it was unbecoming of the prime minister to criticise the previous government on foreign soil.
“The statements Modi made on foreign soil have aggrieved the people at large. He said people were ashamed of being born in India. A prime minister, no matter from which party he belongs, is the prime minister of the entire population and making such statements on foreign soil is unbecoming of a prime minister,” Pilot told media persons here.
“In the last 11 months, he has toured 19 countries, and continuing in the election mode, he has been criticising the past governments during foreign tours. No prime minister before him has ever pointed finger at the previous government while being on foreign soil,” Pilot said.
At the Indian community reception in South Korea on Monday, Modi said there was a time when people used to say they must have committed some sin that they were born in India.
