Activists unite to show solidarity to Irom Sharmila’s struggle

Delhi : Activists from various organisations will come together in Delhi tomorrow to commemorate and support the 15-year long struggle of Irom Sharmila to end AFSPA in the North-East.

Irom Sharmila has been demanding removal of armed forces from India’s North-East for last 15 years. The country, and in fact the whole world, has recognised and sympathised with her demand. But no government, past or present, has even tried to open a dialogue with her, the release from members of Khudai Khidmatgar, National Alliance of People’s Movements, Delhi Solidarity Group, Socialist Party (India), Punjab Sanjhewal, PUCL, SSSC and CNDP said,

On Wednesday, they will demand a total revocation of AFSPA from the entire North-East at the earliest. Fifteen activists from various struggle movements will observe a one-day’s fast from 9 am to 5 pm at Samta Sthal, opposite Raj Ghat and a public meeting on AFSPA will be organised followed by a human chain at 5 pm.
