New Delhi : Three weeks after the alleged hate crime in one of the authorized Toyota Service Centre, neither the owners of the service centre-Shinari Toyota-nor Toyota India-have bothered to react over the issue.
When contacted, a representative of Toyota India said the company would not comment on the issue as it was under investigation.
This callous approach has angered netizens on Social media, with a number of people questioning the corporate attempts to cover up the hate crime in India.
As TCN story on the incident grabbed eyeballs in social media, the netizens took to Social Networking sites likes Facebook and Twitter to complain what they called a cover up of hate crime by corporate (Toyota).
Muhammad Yakub Shaikh, who worked as a cleaner in a Toyota Service Centre, died after highly-pressurized air was inserted into his body through his anus allegedly by a colleague after arguments over Qurbani. The family of Shaikh claims that Shaikh, a father of three, and Arekar (an accused) had an argument over the Qurbani offered during Eid after which the incident took place and that the police are allegedly trying to brush the incident under the carpet calling it as a fun fight that resulted in his death.
Shinrai Toyota, which runs the service station and is Toyota’s official dealer, has not even bothered to contact the family.
Anwar Zafar Jeelani, a netizen, while expressing his concern on Toyota India Official Page on Facebook, wrote, “Dear Toyota, the alleged hate crime in your premises in Mumbai is not acceptable. What are you doing to ensure justice for your employee who was murdered in such a brutal way by his colleagues?”
Another netizen , Habib Siddiqui, wrote: “There has been a murder on the floor of your service centre in Mumbai. How can a person have accepted the air to be flown into his anus?? Don’t Toyota think that it is a clear case of Murder and cover up?”
The following are other reactions from netizens, asking Toyota to act in an appropriate manner in this regard.
