New Delhi: Students from the Jat community on Saturday demonstrated in Delhi University’s north campus, demanding reservations in government jobs and educational institutions.
Despite the presence of the police, the agitating students of the Delhi University sat on the road and stopped the vehicular movement.
“We want reservation in government jobs and educational institutions. The government does not want to give us reservation,” said one of the students.
The Jat community’s agitation for reservations has already seen violence and disruption of normal life in Haryana.
Soldiers were air-dropped earlier on Saturday in violence-hit Rohtak town after the protesters blocked and dug up roads to prevent the entry of the military.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has expressed concern over the ongoing Jat agitation and discussed the issue with Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Kejriwal said in a tweet that he was worried about water supply to the national capital.
