New Delhi : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday said the decision to suspend legislator Alka Lamba as a spokesperson of the party was an “internal” matter.
“This may be of interest to a certain section of people but this is an internal matter of our party,” AAP Delhi convenor Dilip Pandey said.
“Who we appoint as a spokesperson, who we appoint at the block, district or state level is for the party to decide,” Pandey said.
He did not say whether Lamba was “relieved” for deviating from the party line on the issue of Gopal Rai, who has resigned as the transport minister.
Earlier, Lamba said she was ready to “repent” if she had committed any mistake.
“I am a disciplined worker of the party and respect its every decision. If I have done any mistake unknowingly, I am ready to repent so that my party will not face any trouble in its fight against corruption,” Lamba tweeted.
Two days ago, Lamba said Rai had resigned from the post to make way for a fair probe into a proposed Premium Bus Service scheme, which has come under criticism, while the party cited health reasons.
Pandey reiterated that Rai, who limps because of a gunshot injury he suffered when he was a student activist, had major health issues.
“Rai’s health has worsened in recent times. He spends 95 percent of his time in hospitals. The transport ministry is a very time-consuming portfolio.
“Therefore, the party decided to relieve him of some of his burden,” he said.
